Statistical Analysis on New Data

The data set contains continuous, binary and categorical data. For continuous variables, we perform a two sample t-test to measure significant differences between ELISA positive and ELISA negative. For binary and categorical variables, a t-test does not make sense. So instead we use a chi-squared two-sample test.

Using the gold standard of $p$-value below 0.05, the following variables have a statistically significant difference between ELISA positive and ELISA negative patients:

• Age ($p\approx 0.005$)
• Duration of weight loss ($p\approx 0.04$)
• Marital status ($p\approx 0.000 000 2$)
• Consumption of roasted fresh water crabs ($p\approx 0.002$)
• Occupation ($p\approx 0.000 02$)
• Frequency of consumption of fresh water crabs ($p\approx 0.0003$)
• Duration of consumption of cray fishes ($p\approx 0.000 02$)
• Frequency of consumption of cray fishes ($p\approx 0.000 02$)
